The wheels in my head started to turn last night. As I watched V for Vendetta, I saw that our world is rapidly approaching the state of fear and government policing present in the Wachowski film.
We need not look at all the events and "safeguards" put in place by the US government to tell us that our lives are being increasingly controlled by the strings of a puppetmaster. All we have to look at is a singular event that occured outside of our country. The terrible assassination of Benazir Bhutto might not have been about the stifling of people's liberties and democracy. It might have been due to religious differences or other reasons that my tiny brain(and let me tell you, it is tiny) cannot comprehend. But it is the actions surrounding, leading up to, and resulting from the disaster that show that the voice of the people is becoming worth less and less.
Pakistan's President, Perez Musharraf, spoke out against public political rallies leading up to the event and is now expected to continue his denouncement of public rallies. HIs reasoning was that he was afraid that more harm from terrorists would come from rallies. He is using fear to try to persuade people to not speak out against their government. But if there is one thing that we all learned from V for Vendetta, it is that knives are awesome...I mean, ideas are bulletproof. Ideas cannot die. Therefore, ideas are fearless.

Howdy ho, Neighborino!
